Growing the Makelight Membership

At the beginning of 2016 I started to dream of creating a membership for Makelight. A wonderful online community was forming, made up of people who had either taken one of my in person workshops or one of my online courses.

I could see that the more people engaged with their photography and with each other the better they got. Teaching photography and social media skills needed more than just one workshop or one online course. I wanted to create something that helped people to stay connected both with each other and with their photography.

I also noticed that so many of these people had a business or a blog. I know all to well how isolating it can feel to work on your own or to work on something that feels really hard on some days, and even more so if you don’t have anyone to share the challenges or frustrations with. And then what about when things are going super well or you get over 100 likes on an Instagram post and you need someone to high-five?!

When Stef joined Makelight last April I knew that creating something bigger than online courses and workshops was possible. I also knew that we could go bigger than just photography courses. We could build something where we could pour in all our shared knowledge about building businesses (large and small), creativity, branding, blogging, social media, tech, photography and so much more. A place where people could join together from all over the world and support each other in growing their ideas, their businesses, their blogs and at the same time their creativity.

Over the past year we have grown the Makelight Membership and now have 550 members. In May we are set to switch over to Makelight being the Membership. All our courses and tools will be run inside the membership only. I am so excited to take this leap and go all in on our amazing community and support these wonderful people to grow, to do their best work and to be the very best that they can be, all while they are also supporting each other.

It is an exciting thing to do an online course or a workshop but it’s even more exciting if you can keep the buzz and commitment going after the course has finished. If you can make friendships and collaborate with people both near and far. If you have a tribe to cheer you on when things are going well and who will also be there to pick you up and support you when things get tricky.

Stef and I are so passionate about Makelight. We want everyone to join us, so that we can share our knowledge and experience with you and help, support and inspire you to harness the amazing power of the internet and modern technology to do the work that you, in turn, are passionate about.

Together let’s make 2017 incredible. xo

The April Membership is now open and it starts with our Beautify Your Instagram course. There are just 100 places and once these have gone the Membership will be closed again until May.
