Well hello there July! I’m not quite sure how you arrived so quickly but I’m pleased to see you.
I always love the start of July because it feels like I have a second go at the year. We’re half-way through 2016 and it’s time to sit down and make plans and goals for part two!
I love to go through the plans I made at the beginning of the year and see how I am doing. I also enjoy looking at what’s been working and what hasn’t been so good over the past 6 months.
I spend some time writing about and celebrating all the positives, big and small, writing down all my achievements and thinking about all the happy times. This really helps me to overcome those panicky feelings about the year going by too fast. I’m sure you get those too! It also helps me to focus on the wonderful, happy, joyful and lovely stuff. It’s so easy to lose this in the craziness of life both in your own personal life and all that is going on in the world right now.
Capture the happiness! Fill notebooks, print out photographs and celebrate the joy.
I then spend some time thinking and writing about what hasn’t worked out so well. Not dwelling on anything for too long but really thinking about what changes I can make over the next few months to improve these things or stop things like burn out for happening again. I’m not going for anything big or drastic but I am going for things that I know that I can achieve. Small changes that I can make that will make a difference to the way I feel, the way I work and the way I play.
I am looking at my 40 before 40 list and working out how to try and squeeze in as much of those things as I possibly can before my 40th in October. Time is ticking! I am also going back to one of my favourite Pinterest boards and looking at things I want to make and do with my children over the next 6 months. I want to squeeze every ounce of loveliness and adventure out of the time I get to spend with them. They are now 3, 5, 7 and 9. These are precious years indeed!
This weekend I am going to write myself a letter to open up in 6 months time. My lovely friend and member of the Makelight community Renie gave me this idea back in January and I totally missed the opportunity to do it, so this time I’m going to set some time aside this weekend and get this letter written and all sealed up in a safe place ready for opening at the beginning of 2017!
And finally, I will be planning all that I want to do for you over the next 6 months! Videos, courses, blog posts, workshops, studio open days and more. Makelight is growing and the next six months are going to be so very exciting!
If you have any ideas of workshops, courses, videos or blog posts that you would like to see then please leave a message for me in the comments and we can see what we can make happen. This can include things outside of London too, so if you would like me to come and do a workshop near you then do let me know. I am already planning to go to Australia in 2017, so you are welcome to think big!
