Can you start by telling us a bit about your business which you've called The Bird House - great name by the way!
I established The Bird House in 2oo8 to nurture brands, helping them to grow wings and fly by creating the DNA of the business, creating awareness and driving sales.
I wear a different hat for every client that I work with. But in essence I work closely alongside brands from the nuts and bolts of creating business strategy and goals, establishing the brand, planning campaigns and everything to do with the written word. That could be finding the voice or creating content and copy writing.
No two days are ever the same in my world, chopping and changing between brands. And for me planning and time management are key to ducking and diving between projects.
What inspired you to start writing the blog aspect of your business website?
Emily's Makelight course was the inspiration I needed to start a personal blog.
You see, I was used to 'ghost writing' for clients but without a brand to hide behind I was really nervous. But with Emily's guidance I found the blog became a natural extension to my Instagram feed. So the blog posts became a chance to share the story.
From there, I gained the confidence to establish #nestandflourish, a monthly tag with my buddy Sarah Paylor (@live_and_bloom).
What role does Instagram play in your business?
Instagram has proven to be the most amazing window to the world for me: both to look out on, but also to share what's in my space.
Since I'm home based I find my Instagram fix with a cup of coffee takes me miles away from my desk in an instant. I've loved forging new connections - both personal as well as vital contacts for work! It's so enriching.
How would you describe your photography style?
My style is evolving. I'm drawn to simple, light, bright captures that are real. I like my images to have integrity.
What does Makelight mean to you?
Makelight has opened so many doors for me, introduced me to some amazing friends and gifted me the courage to try new things, explore and push boundaries.
I find myself recommending Emily to both friends and clients alike to unlock their creativity and gain skills to take captures that remind themselves of precious moments.
What's one piece of advice you'd like to pass along to others in the Makelight community?
The Makelight community is like a sisterhood, it's so supportive and encouraging. It's a great platform to try new things.
I think we all take our lead from Emily who is bubbling with enthusiasm and gentle guidance.
