Makelight Magic : Sue Rawlinson

Sue Rawlinson : Makelight Magic

Hello and welcome to another week of Makelight Magic! It's always such a joy to see the work my students produce after coming to a workshop; the images are so inspiring and really make me smile.

Today I'm sharing words and pictures from Sue Rawlinson, who blogs over at Sweetpea Family. She came to my photography for knitters workshop a few months ago.

Hi, my name is Sue and I run a small crochet business teaching workshops and one to one lessons. It feels such a privilege to have a job that allows me to share my crochet passion. My daughter Kate booked me onto one of Emily's workshops at the beautiful Makelight studio, which was a wonderful surprise. Emily had tailored the day especially for crocheters and knitters. On the morning of the workshop I was a little nervous but the day was perfect. I had the opportunity to network with lovely like-minded creative women and most importantly the benefit of Emily's tuition. I had used Instagram and Facebook for some time to share images and information about my workshops, but since attending the course Emily has transformed the quality of my images. I have a much greater awareness of the importance of daylight and how to present and stage photos.

I have since invested in a small wooden table which provides a beautiful rich backdrop to my photographs; I've also always got a basket of props at the ready. Now that good daylight opportunities are slim I take as many photographs as I can when the light is good, so that I have a little library stock of images to use. This enables me to continue to post without compromising on the quality of the photographs. I am obviously still learning and pretty much a novice, but the tips I took away from Emily's workshop have greatly improved my confidence. Another boost has been my instagram following, which although still small, has more than doubled over the last month.
