I am so excited to introduce you to the third maker in my 'Maker Spaces' book. I think I am extra excited to share this today because yesterday the first copy of the book arrived and now it feels very real and so amazing. I really can't wait for April to get here, so you can all see it too!
Today I am introducing you to the lovely and super talented artist Anna Joyce who lives and works in Portland, Oregon.
Finding all the makers for my book was a bit of an adventure (it took a very long time and there were a few tears!) but I think finding Anna was my favourite book research story. One night I was lying in bed feeling a bit stressed out about the whole thing. My publishers had told me which places I could visit, so the makers had to live and work in the right places, have beautiful homes, also have beautiful studios and make beautiful things. Oh and their homes, studios and things couldn't be the same as the other makers on the list. So, sometimes things got complicated!
And this particular evening I was feeling glum and trying to cheer myself up before going to sleep by looking at pretty pictures on Instagram. Scroll, scroll, scroll...hang on, what is that I spy? A maker, in Portland, making beautiful things, living in a beautiful house and wait...with a gorgeous studio space! I emailed Anna straight away and finally fell asleep. The next morning, thanks to that wonderful time zone thing, there was an email waiting from Anna. She said yes!
Fast forward a few months and there we were sitting in her super cute home, looking out at the wonderful Portland trees and chatting away like we'd known each other for years. And that is why I love, love, love social media!
I cannot wait for you to see inside Anna's home and her sweet little home studio. I know you will love it just as much as I do. Here are a couple of little peeks.
And here is some of Anna's gorgeous work that immediately caught my eye. I love the colours and shapes that she uses.
Anna has an exciting year ahead as her own book 'Stamp Stencil Paint' will be out in the Autumn. I cannot wait to read it because I know that it's going to get me all excited to make stuff. And I really love the cover!
This year she has a collection of cross body style bags and some hand painted ceramics coming out for Spring. And in March she's moving into a small studio store front, which I can't wait to visit when I'm back in Portland in May.
I asked Anna about her hopes for the year ahead, and she said "to promote the book and stay sane." I'm right there with you Anna! xo
