Last Autumn I organised the first Makelight Weekend, a photography workshop in a beautiful shoot location house in Sussex, where five women and I came together for a really inspiring weekend.
The setting was gorgeous and light was just wonderful. As soon as we woke up on the Saturday morning we were all desperate to start taking photographs. Everywhere you looked there was an image waiting for you.
What I really loved about having a whole weekend with my students was the wonderful pace everything could go at. I could teach them things, they could think about them and then later we'd have a chance to talk about them again.
Some students came with specific projects to work on while others just wanted to go with the flow.
On the Saturday evening we all sat round after dinner to look through the images from the day. It was so good to be able to give feedback and then identify what they should work on the next day. Quite a few pennies dropped that evening and it filled my teaching heart!
And then there was the sea, morning jogs and sunrise photography.
But it wasn't just the photography that made me happy that weekend, it was the conversations, the connection we all had, the support we all gave to each other and the inspiration we all left with. The inspiration for photography and for living life. I don't think any of us really wanted to leave so soon. I knew this would be the first of many Makelight Weekends.
I am excited to say the next Makelight Weekend will be in June (26-28th) and we will be going back to this stunning location in Sussex. Places are strictly limited to 5 and you can book your place today! The cost is £550 per person for the weekend, including food and accommodation (in shared rooms) and there is a £50 non-refundable deposit to book your place.
