Always Be Creating

Homemade name badges

Homemade name badges

Last week I made these sweet little name tags for my Make Light Photography Workshop students. They were really simple and fast to make but so pretty.

I used kraft tags, washi tape, pink twine, ribbon and these pretty buttons.  And my favourite Merchant & Mills safety pins!

I always like to bring a little homemade loveliness to my workshops.

In preparation for my workshop on Saturday I spent time reflecting on my own creativity and how I squeeze it into my busy life. I particularly thought about my 365 project, which I've been working on this year. Every day I have taken an image with both my iPhone camera and my dSLR. When I started the project I thought that I would take an image I liked every day and end up with a complete 365 set of images to put into an album or something. This hasn't quite happened as I originally planned. I have got some images that I love but I've also got some images that I really don't love. But they are just as valuable to my creative process and to my photography. Being creative isn't about always getting it right or always making something lovely. Sometimes things don't go to plan, sometimes mistakes can lead to things you weren't expecting and sometimes you realise that you need to learn more about something to achieve what you want to do.

The wonderful thing for me though is that I have made an effort to take an image every day. I have given myself time (even if sometimes it's only a couple of minutes) to be creative every day. This daily creative practice has opened my eyes to seeing more inspiration around me and to being more creative in other ways too. I think it's also been really good for my children to watch me finding a moment to take my photographs each day.

This week I have plans to start a new quilt, finally have a go at making some paper flowers and I will also be getting some Halloween crafts ready to share with you soon. Until then you might want to look for some inspiration on my Halloween Pinterest board
