Book of the week: Extra Yarn by Mac Barnett

I fell in love with Extra Yarn by Mac Barnett as soon as I saw it in the shop. I was totally drawn to the beautiful illustrations on the front, the colours and the reference to yarn! When I saw it was illustrated by Jon Klassen I knew we had to add it to our collection. And we weren't disappointed when we read it.

It is a beautiful story about a little girl called Annabelle who finds a box full of yarn in all colours. She knits herself a jumper and discovers there's still yarn to spare, so she knits one for her dog too. The yarn is never ending and before long her whole class has a jumper, and then Annabelle goes further by knitting jumpers for dogs, trees, houses and cars. She transforms her grey little town into a beautiful colourful place that is soon on the tourist map!

All is lovely and bright until an archduke arrives to try and buy the box. What will happen to Annabel and the special box of yarn? You will have to buy the book and see!
